I_m Victoria Sinclair, thanks for joining us here at Naked News. All eyes are on the Middle East, as the violence between Israel and Hamas militants continues. Israel carried out 80 strikes in the Gaza strip on Monday alone. Now, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton is heading to the region to try and diffuse the situation. With the latest developments and other news, here_s Erica Stevens. Late Tuesday Vic, Hillary Clinton will leave Cambodia - which she had been visiting with US President Barack Obama - and head to the Middle East to try and push for a truce between Israel and the Palestinians. Clinton will meet with leaders from both sides, beginning with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Pressure from the international community is also mounting. In Cairo, UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon has called for an immediate ceasefire.While there IS hope that a peace deal can soon be reached, the US Navy isn_t taking any chances. Three amphibious warships are on route to the eastern Mediterranean. The USS Iwo Jima, USS New York, and USS Gunston Hall will be on standby in case an American evacuation of Israel takes place. The White House has stressed that the move is strictly precautionary. For the time being, American citizens who want to leave the region are advised to do so via commercial airline. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama is wrapping up the third and final leg of his tour through Asia. As I said earlier, the President was in Cambodia on Tuesday for the East Asia Summit. He met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and primarily discussed trade issues. Obama also told the Premier that the US and China should establish clear rules of the road when it comes to international trade. The goal of the tour was to strengthen US political and economic ties in the region, and it appears to have been a success. We_ll be right back.
